Halleujah was written by Leonard Cohen, although the best version is probably Jeff Buckley's cover. Beautiful.

I always saw 'Everybody Hurts' as an uplifting song.. There is some depressing stuff on Automatic For The People though, like 'Try Not To Breathe', 'Drive', 'Monty Got A Raw Deal', 'Sweetness Follows' etc:

the billie holiday version is the saddest than the bjork version... the heather nova version is the least saddest..

Can-The Thief
Nirvana-All Apologies
UNKLE-Rabbit In Your Headlights
Massive Attack-Unfinished Sympathy
Wilco-Jesus Etc:
John Lennon-Grow Old With Me (Partially for the unintentional irony of the title. Also sad in that aspect is 'Life Begins at 40'.)

maybe you should expand your horizons and try somehting new! do you have any sad songs you like?
since when does expanding you horizons involve listening to a guy with a wonkey eye whine about how miserable it is to be english?

i listen to radiohead as well but i dont see it to be broadening my horizons at all....
what you have told that guy is that unless he listens or makes note of depressing music he is shallow and not-worldly. how the hell does that work?

Nan's song and Angels by Robbie Williams are pretty sad too. I could imagine Nan's song being played at a funeral. Also:
Wind beneath my wings - Bette Middler??
Here without you - 3 doors down
I will do anything for love - MeatLoaf
The Scientist - Coldplay
Don't wanna miss a thing - Aerosmith
LOTR soundtrack (really moving music - made me cry heaps, especially in ROTK!)
Iris - (can't remember who sings it tho!)
Where oh where can my baby be? - Pearl Jam
Im sure i'll be able to think of more later but thats all i got for now
