yeah, there's something about his voice. their version of 'harpoon' has always been really really really sad to me.

Are you shitting me? The fact that it is a cover of an actual good song (yes, I have a bit of a Bryan Adams music penchant), how can anybody list dance stuff as having some sort of emotional effect?

was it you that was saying something about them the other day? i'd never heard them until today, my brother borrowed one of their cd's off a mate. i was a bit put off when i realised the subject matter of most of their songs, but after i read a bit more about them they seem pretty cool. he's not trying to convert people, just talking about what is important to him. hi-ho.

very possibly, it's hard to find a friend is one of my all time favourite cds, and if you ever invest in any ptl, it's the one that i recommend far above their other lps and/or eps, i love them
yeah some people get put off by the fact that he incorporates his christianity so strongly into his music, but i think he manages to do it in a really... non alienating way if you're not christian, for example, 'secret of the easy yoke', which talks about going to church and not being able to find god at all

Sue's Last Ride has (Particularly for an instrumental), a great feeling of descent into the final tragic crescendo.

Yet more;
R.E.M-Country Feedback (Very desolate.)
Joy Division-Atmosphere. (Isolated.. People like you, find it easy, abandoned too soon, don't walk away..)
Slint-Good Morning Captain (Spiderland is quite the sad album.)
Bob Dylan-Desolation Row
Augie March-Beds Are Burning (Brings out an extra sadness not in the original.)
Portishead-Roads. (See 'Atmosphere'. I've got nobody on my side, and surely that ain't right... Love the strings too.)
