I think I just ran a red light with a red light camera, very very slowly (about 50k in a 70 zone)

I'm on my Red Provisions.

Does anyone know under new laws, how long my license would be suspended?
when i will be notified by mail of my penalty?
And how much will i be fined?

Would i have to re-do a test after suspension?

Thanks :(

Won't get a suspension, just a fine and some demerits off.

Either way you're an idiot running a red light, that's just asking for it.

It depends on what state your in. And I agree with azamakumar...you are an idiot for driving through a red light, no matter what speed you were doing. In Qld, they say:

if you accumulate 4 or more demerit points over a 1 year period, you will hav the option of choosing either a:
-3 month driving suspension with a 1year late night driving restriction after the suspension or
-1year GDB with a late night driving restriction applied.

did it actually flash or are you just freaking out? it only goes off if you start to go through the intersection after it's already red.

^ not quite sure as I didn't turn around and look. But as I approached the line it was still yellow, then as soon as I passed the line it turned red. I suppose the chances of not getting a fine is slim?

It only goes off 0.3 seconds after changing to red, you're probably fine.

haha seconded.

well as long as your front wheels went over the line before it turned red, and you weren't speeding (obviously you weren't) i'm prettttty sure you're not going to get a ticket.

edit; you don't have to turn around to see if a red light camera flashes. when those things go off, they pretty much light up the entire intersection for a split second, so everyone can lol at you getting busted.

No, I've checked. It's 0.2 or 0.3 seconds after going red.

yeah in situations like that you should either be accelerating hard to beat the light and cross the intersection when its yellow or braking hard to stop yourself before you get caught by the camera.

yeah okay great, because i know i always think to myself when i drive through a yellow light "awesome, i made it with 0.3 seconds to spare!!" like who the fuck is actually going to measure these things

besides the cameras, i mean people who are driving .. you're not going to be able to pick up on a third of a second. its easier just to say that as long as you get over the line before it goes red, and you're not speeding, you should be fine.

Those of you who said if you see a orange light to gun it, how the fuck did you get your licence? You are meant to stop if you reasonably can when you see a orange light. You are NOT meant to speed up!!! Geez

if youre near an interesection and the lights turn amber, youre meant to accelerate if you cant stop before the line in time.
