I have a problem with people who can't speak english or choose not to speak english in Australia, not because I'm personally offended but because I think it's beneficial both for them and the country to have a uniform language in many ways.
Please pay more attention to this post. :uhhuh:
Other then that the author of that email is xenophobic. Define 'Australian' culture and the benefits of it. Alternatively discuss the benefits of multiculturalism.

You mean there is a continuum of xenophobia these days?

To the left we have a tiny bit of xenphobia and to the right we extreme xenophobia.

My golly gosh.
Eugenics, formally widely supported by the left, is evidence of leftist racist tendencies.

Edit: Transcendent, I ment to hit reply to a post I read talking about speaking english in Australia.

Well if those ppl arent present in Australia, why do you need to include them? If someone is able to speak two languages then usually one of them is a common one & would be on the sign.

How many languages are the sole language of ppl in Aust???

Do you wish there to be only English on signs?
wait, i thought your original point was that people should stop running business's that don't use english?

Can you tell me a culture or society in the world that isnt xenophobic to some degree, i seriously cannot think of one, and I find Australia to be one of the least xenophobic

Are you going to go to that store? Why do you think they have signs in 'foreign' languages? Are you their target customer? Do you think they have products/services that cater for your needs?

Then they would be in international/specialist grocery/supermarket store which are not that common but a few are popping up. Who's loss is it if they have it in a language which only 100 people speak?

Loss of biz, therefore loss of $$$, therefore poorer financial lifestyle, which in turn is blamed on the govt

btw, what stores have non-English translation signs

Mainly Chinese, Vietnamese and various Middle Eastern stores. I don't know about other countries but those are the only ones I've recognised and the majority of them have English translations.

that was an interesting article
idisagree
i feel we should be able to keep our languages and our culture and live here
i dont see how it effects anyone
i do have a problem with people who dont try to speak english or learn especially if they have lived here 30 years
but an immigrant such as myself
i dont see a problem with my culture..
i speak arabic...as well as english..etc..?
hes rambling on about "in god we trust"..and if we have a problem with god we should leave..
who has a problem with god?
hes talkign about how australians believe in god and we a re a christian country
i am going to disagree with that
like does he want us to all convert to christianity too

the purpose of multiculturalism is to ENHANCE our culture with the interesting and unique aspects of other cultures. by excluding yourself to ONE culture is something I disagree with. ENFORCING a single culture I definately have a problem with. I believe you should retain SOME of your culture but ultimately adopt 'Australian' culture.

Thank you, you agree with me. The only point i agree with on the article is that we think that immigrants should be able to speak English & that the Australian culture shouldnt be required to change, like the present situation is quite good

u go shopping here..u go out you live ur life
to an extent..everything u do is impacted on because u live in australia

100% agree.
At school I was in the "multicultural" group, being the only Aussie. Now, usually this would mean trouble... but we all got along great, because although we all brought a part of our own culture into our personality (lebs were lebs, indians were indians, bolivians were bolivians, americans were americans), we didn't let our culture ultimately define who we are, i.e. The lebs didn't walk around acting like stereotypical lebs, like alot of lebs do.

we should tolerate them, they should tolerate us, they should definently learn english, they shouldn't try to enforce their cultural practices on us and change aspects of our laws, rules or culture because 'omg it offends me' they should deal with it, they came here after all.

nor should we try to unreasonably change their culture....if they want to practice, then fine, just don't practice the aspects that requires us to change or go out of our way to satisfy you. and if your all like 'but we want to practice ALL aspects and australia, being a mulicultural country should adapt to us' THEN FUCK OFF!
