I did a little bit of reading but I wasn't sure I understood correctly. I was offered a course at MQ (it being my first preference), but I'm not entirely set on going there yet. My second preference was a course at UTS (which I have the marks to get into), but of course it wouldn't be considered if I got into my first preference course. What I was wondering was if I could enrol at MQ for now and then change my preferences to make UTS the first preference before the 23rd (which I think is the date of the next offer round). Is this even possible? It'd just give me more time to make a decision, and if I then got offered a course at UTS, I could cancel the enrolment with MQ and go with UTS, right (that is, if I decided UTS was where I wanted to go)?

Yep you can, in fact that's the proper way of utilising the multiple UAC rounds.
