2 of my closest friends, Laura and Allan met each other through me... they never spoke. Just called me up days later asking "who was that?... he/she's hot". Both of them.

They bump heads again, thru me. I didn't think I'd mind if they hooked up. They're just friends. Good friends in fact. they've been going out with past "lovers" that treat them like shit. I thought it would be nice for them anyway, plus knowing they'd treat each other right.

They were all lovey dovey for ages. Laura called me up and said she thinks she's "in love" with Allan.

Allan went to the Army Reserve training for the holidays etc. Still hadn't asked Laura out yet. He says he'll ask her out when he comes back. He goes to me:

"I really like Laura. I just don't want to get hurt again... It's not that I don't trust her while I'm away, I just don't want some guy trying to get onto her while I'm not there. Tell me if she does. I sound possessive I know. I'm not even going out with her. I just wish I didn't have to leave her."

Of course I reminded him that its been his goal to go to the army for years. I said not to lose sight of what he's been aiming for over a girl. And besides, Laura is a mature, moral girl.

Or so I thought.

She decided to flirt and exchange numbers with dozens of guys she's met, as well as sleep with 2 or 3. I only found out about half of the occasions. She decided to lie to me about how many guys she associated with, but thing was, I never asked her about her boy relationships.

When I do find out, it's too late, because the first thing Allan does when he came back was lock lips with Laura. Allan tells me he's in love, while I'm trying to contain myself that she's been fucking around. I couldn't take it, so I told him "You know, just because you're faithful to laura, doesn't mean she was obliged to do the same for you while you were away...."

He could take a hint. Asked Laura. They had a fight about their feelings etc. She admitted to flirting with ONE guy. Nothing more. Nothing less.

They've been going out for almost a year now. I didn't tell Allan about what happened during the holidays until I spoke to Laura. She kept denying a lot, until other people she socialised with kinda put pieces together and told me of the other people she slept with that I didn't know about. She admitted to it, and she withdrew from everyone.

She ended up losing a lot of friends at school because of all the close friends and boyfriends, she messed with. She lost me. She lost everyone except Allan.

Allan blamed me for the friends she was losing. I defended myself really calmly. I told him the truth, in the most sincere way as possible, about how many guys she ACTUALLY screwed with while he was away.

He got angrier with me. He said he didn't care. He didn't want to hear it. He said "we weren't even going out, who cares".

And I said "you did. you told me you did."

So we drifted apart.

Now, I'm over what happened with him & Laura, but I lost contact with Allan, a great friend, over something I did as a loyal friend. It sucks ass, and although it gets easier to stop thinking about the two friends I lost, it just makes me angry.

You be a loyal friend and it slams in your face.

Sometimes I think that the moral of the story is not to tell a mate that his girl's been fucking around.

wow.... that was very interesting ur_inner_child...

talk about conflicting decisions.. and confusion... I feel sorry for Allan for going out with Laura in the first place, he seems like a great guy, caring, puts the girl as first priority.. sadly he turns a blind eye to her other dealings and she seems like a bit of a skank and deserved loosing all her friends.. i feel sorry for Allan to be with sombody like that, sounds like he deserves better..

I also feel sorry for you, doing you best to be a loyal caring friend, trying to balance and prioritise things, etc.. Allan shouldn't have treated you like he did, i mean laura deserved it all, but Allan, he should have been understanding and gratefull for what you've done for him, all that you've done for him. hell you found laura for him in the first place!! He seems a bit blind to all your hard work and worry that you have put into this.. and also to Laura's other side, or maybe he isn't blind, maybe he just doesn't care.. which is worse...

The truth always needs to be told, somehow, somewhere, you did as best as you could considering....

Being a friend means sometimes telling them something they don't want to hear, the truth. If they can't handle it and break the friendship because of it then they really aren't your friend.

yeah...thats a bitch

if allan was any kind of the same mate as you are to him...he would (should) understand why you were trying to tell him... have you told him this? probably.

anyway it might be like that offspring song...."why must i be the one who has to kno??"

I think maybe you should have told him earlier, and not euphemised, but it was an honest mistake. It is unfourtunate he decided not to listen to you, given all you had done for them. But I think "love" blinds some people they don't want to lose what they have. Maybe in time he'll regret what he said to you.

Correct, that's what I was about to say, did you wait months to tell him? That's wrong.

Man, as you said... Allan just got back from the army and when you get back from the army all you care about is your beer and the best root you can possibly find... and im assuming Laura is hot? Say no more?

i told my best mate his gf was going around flirting with everyone in sight. he said he knew it, he just wanted someone to affirm it.
it kinda strengthened the friendship because i was honest and told him.
i dunno i guess different people respond in different ways.

well it sounds like allan has been hurt too many times that he'll go into denial to avoid facing what has really happened. i guess inner child made him think about reality too much and it made him scared.

I told him within the week he came back. I figured that talking to Laura first was the respectable thing to do. Initially I wanted her to tell him herself. You know how people say they "rather hear it from them that someone else".

Yeah, I hope so too. Thanx :)
