Quotes from books or novels, do they need page numbers? (1 Viewer)

Hey everyone,

Just wondering when we take a quote from a novel, and use it in your essay in the exam do you also need to give reference to the page number the quote was from?
Will you lose marks or gain marks by not doing or doing this?

No, in the HSC you are not required to do this. However, providing context for a quote can be advantageous e.g. In Act IV, Scene I Hamlet states that...
