You could, its still mathematically correct, but the markets won't know what your doing so I advise you not to.

Sometimes in 3U, 4U students use by parts and at the conference before the marking begins, if someone brings up that what happeneds if 3U students use 4U methods, they will allow it, as long as everyone in that marking group knows what's going on. Still mathematically correct, but unfair for other students I guess.

Why does everyone consider this some secret formula? Someone at school asked me this as well. If you can differentiate properly, you can do things like that in your head without special 'formulas'
