I'm currently doing 10 units, two of which are IT, and I'm currently ranked first at IT in my school. It isn't that hard to achieve considering almost half of my class are getting marks below 50%.

Will the performance of my class affect my HSC mark or ATAR in a negative way?

From my understanding of the system 2 years ago (which hasn't changed), no so long as you come 1st in your HSC examination in your school. If you come 1st in both, then (as I recall) your assessment mark will be whatever your HSC exam mark was.
