How would you answer a question that ask you to compare the chemistry of a dry cell and the silver oxide button cell?

Thanks

Well in the syllabus or the question itself rather, didn't it ask you to compare them in terms of cost, chemistry, practicality, uses and the impact on the environment ?

State what the anode cathodes are made of.
Write the equations
State the electrolyte.
Maybe add if ones rechargeable or not.

So by just writing out each reation at the cathode and anode as well as the overall reaction of each battery that is comparing them?
Do we need to state any similarites or differences?

Yes! Compare means you have to state similarities AND differences. If you only do one, you will never get full marks as it is regarded as not answering the question correctly.

Eg:

Similarity: they both use chemical reactions to produce electricity

Difference: the different materials used.

Of course, like Forbidden said, you would then go on to discuss the similarities and differences in the dot points listed as stated in the syllabus.
