I'm about to start work on my *gasp* ISP... and I just wanted to run by my idea with some people to see if it's a good one?

I'm a music addict, so naturally tried to come up with a way to incorporate music into the project. I started off thinking along the lines of "How is Nirvana [the band] influenced by Buddhism" but could find absolutely nothing on it apart from the fact that the name is to do with buddhism, and Kurt wrote his [supposed] suicide note to "bodah".

SO... I was thinking, despite my extreme dislike of the band, [no offense to those who like them], something along the lines of "how does Creed express their belief in Christianity" or "how is a belief in Christianity expressed through Creed's lyrics and music" or something like that.

Any thoughts? They'd be muchly appreciated =)

..cause we are all such a massive bunch of Christians....

LOL

Sounds 'interesting'. Just so long as you can verify that they are a Christian band (as opposed to a bunch of people of Christian background who play music) as there is a big difference..I was under the opinion that it was only the lead singer who was a bit of a fundie but didnt he get dumped by the band? Or am I thinking of someone else?

The only problem that I could see with your potential question/s is that they *could* lead to either a very broad and so-so description of the bands musical style and a basic analysis of lyrics (eg they mention God .: they must be Christian) or that the inlfuence of one or two members of the band become the whle bands attitude...if that makes sense.

If you are such a music addict, why dont you have a look at the emergence of Christian musicians in the mainstream market. http://www.koorong.com/music/ is a listing of music that fits into thiss category and there is a massive music festival being held in Qld that Koorong is sponsoring http://www.sonfest.com/
or you could look at the influence of Hillsong http://www.hillsong.com/hma/bin/view.pl?sitename=hma&page=index which as an album went to # 2 or 3 on the mainstream charts about 2 months ago..... just some thoughts

OK to make up for it
http://www.theage.com.au/articles/2004/08/04/1091476502495.html?from=storyrhs&oneclick=true very good quote
"Melbourne-based rock band Jet was also recognised, as was Spiderbait, Something For Kate, John Butler Trio and a selection of Christian faith music from the Hillsong Church.

The church's album For All You've Done was number one in its debut week in July.

"There is a lot of press about the church being on the decline but where there is great music being preached and life in churches, they're all growing," Hillsong's Darlene Zschech said.

"I just think it is awesome that a song attached to people's faith is on the charts."

For All You've Done is the 13th live worship album produced by Hillsong Church and the group claims its music is "impacting churches and Christians all over the globe".

Ms Zschech said the other 12 albums had been accredited with ARIA's gold status in Australia and more than 30 gold and platinum sales awards worldwide."

and this from http://www.themusic.com.au/im_m/archive/2004/040720-414_music_money.php
"Meanwhile, evangelical Christian group Hillsong Church scored the top album slot - with sales coming almost entirely from the church's giant get-together in Sydney the weekend previous. Hillsong is registered as a chart store, so the sales are legit. But they took place in a period before the listed release date - so how can they be counted? "Sony's official release date is listed as July 12, but according to Sony, their release schedule is as follows - the official release day is Friday, but the instore date is for the following Monday," says Timmins. "In the case of the Hillsongs release, the produce was not embargoed and could be sold upon receipt. Their sales are completely within the ARIA Chart rules." Maybe, but they produced a result that's completely meaningless for the rest of the country outside Sydney. Hillsong's record company? Er, it's a Sony. Hillsong dropped to 10 this week."

I also had a screenshot of the ARIA chart showing hillsong at #1 but i dont know where it is...

thanks heaps for your help =) So you think something along the lines of "how does religion affect the music industry"? okay, so maybe that's a bit broad... "how is christianity evident in the music industry?" uhmmm.. "in what ways is christianity found in music?" "how do bands help spread the word?" =P I don't know... lol

a bit broad.....maybe "With reference to specific bands, how has the music industry influenced religion/the spread of Christianity/the evangelisation process of Christianity/the Evangelical movement?" (I like this last option) Look at it from the other POV

Christian pop music. Truly cringe-worthy.
true..but having "heard" some of the bands listed at the kooyong site, you wouldnt know that they are religious and the music isnt that bad if you are into that sort of stuff...I actually didnt mind some of the music by "third day"
..I think that was the groups name..or jars of clay? cant remember

BTW I am not saying I listen to that type of music or that I like it......
