If u get, say for physics, an assessment mark of 50/100 and an exam mark of 90/100 is ur total HSC for physics 90?

If so how far apart do ur marks have to be for this to happen?

My maths teacher told us that if the exam mark is heaps higher than the assessment mark then ur exam mark is ur total HSC mark 4 that subject!

If that was the assessment mark your school submitted, and you were ranked first in your school for that course, and that 90 was your hsc exam mark, then you're right. But that's got nothing to do with the marks we got yesterday.

If your internal ranking is heaps low but your exam ranking is like heaps high, then your assessment mark = exam mark.

but if on your result it says 50 & 90, then your HSC mark is 70.

What your math teacher probably saying is that if such discrepency happens, you will not see 50 on your result.

According to my maths teacher and several teachers from other schools, it has everything to do with yesterdays marks, but u wouldnt know it if it happened to u cause ur assessment and exam marks would be the same i think.

Your Maths teacher is a retard. No wonder you don't understand the law of averages. That being said, its not entirely your fault... well maybe just a little.

You HSC mark is the average of your EXAM and ASSESSMENT mark.

But I wouldnt expect you to be able to calculate that, considering your maths teacher is a reject.

My 4-unit maths teacher read it in a booklet from Board of Studies so unless u read the booklet u don't know if he's wrong!

Plus, if he was telling the truth, the Board of Studies wouldn't want to advertise that alot to students cause then some students would purposely go bad and not study or put effort into in their assessments and bludge all year until the exams and not be able to do their best.

I am assuming that the assessment mark of 50/100 is the mark you got from school that has not been moderated by the board of studies. The only time you can get 90 in your scenario is:

* You are ranked first.
* Your exam mark is 90/100.
* Your exam mark is also the highest mark in your class.

If those 3 points occur, you will receive an HSC mark of 90.


Any other case will not lead to you getting a 90.

I've seen it happen. I pulled a 57 as ranked 2nd last in my maths assessment mark, when the top mark was 95 (I think). If you whip something out at the last minute, insane things like this happen.
