How did Everyone get 18 for this section? I ended up with 11.. could someone please explain their working?

being that i somehow came across 62, i dont like my chances of explanation :p ...

way im reading it the separate triange + integral? ... id be interested to see the working aswell

i got 18units squared

its intergrate top curve (ie y= 2/ x/4) minus integrate bottom curve ie parabola between x= -8 and x=4

after the integration you should get....

[(8 - 2) – (-16 – 8)] – [(64/48) – (-512/48)]
= (6 + 24) – (4/3 + 32/3)
= 30 – 12
=18

Ok 1st integrate - (x^2/16) - [2 - (x/4)]
This will give you (x^3/48) - 2x + (x^2/8)
Sub in x=4 This will give you 64/48 - 8 + 2
Sub in x=-8 This will give you -512/48 + 16 + 8

Now [(64/48 - 8 + 2) - (-512/48 + 16 + 8)]

This will leave you with -14/3 - (-104/3)

Solving gives you -18 but you take the absolute value.

I got 18 but i used 18 for the 2nd part as my area for the top half of the shaded area!! so my total area was 36!!!
