HSC result of an imaginary person:

Subject, Raw mark, hsc mark

Chem: 75, 91
Phys: 84, 93
MX1: 65, 96
MX2: 78, 92

When BOS calculates the atar, they will just look at hsc marks and say oh all band 6s and give us the atar right?
In other words, atar is calculated based on HSC marks right?

Nope. ATAR is recalculated off raw marks. The BOS gives UAC all of the raw marks and then UAC scales and forms your ATAR based off those. Its essentially the same thing as going off HSC marks but that's why you can get two different ATAR's with the same HSC marks because say a 95 MX1 HSC mark might consist of say three different raw marks (74-76 for example).

so atar is based on raw marks and not hsc marks?
