Quant Finance to Actuary (1 Viewer)

UWA (uni i'll probally go to) doesn't offer actuary certified degrees, so if i do quant finance as my major there COULD I end up as an actuary without too much hassle getting the "real" degree over east

you're probably better off doing a STAT or MATH degree combined with BCom as most of PART I of actuarial is math and stat based rather than economics.

Yeah I had at a few graduates and only the people who did pure maths went on to actuarial science somewhere else.

If i do a B.Comm + B.Econs I get the flexibility of doing trading (derivaives and etc), managment or maybe shit like IB if the maths isn't very appealing.

Don't bother too much with a B.Econ

If you want to combine....do Commerce with Stats

That's what I would have done if I was't majoring in Actuarial Studies

I'm still not sure on what I'll do at uni, the reason i'm doing commerce is because it opens up so many pathways and careers.

Would it be better if i start with B.Comm/B.Econs then i can switch out when i find out what i want to do?

Chances are I want to transfer to a more prestigous uni (UNA/USNW/Melb) so my degree is more certified, so wouldn't it be better just doing comm or such?

Why would you want to do Comm and Econ?... that would mean having to major in Economics for the B Econ

I haven't seen that documentry, is that just regarding commerce degrees?

The reason I'm interested in B.Econ is that I'd find it easier and more fun to do then B.Law.

Everyone is saying LOL GOGO B.Comm/B.Law but the law is only so companies know your good at time managment.

I'll ask around, my economics teacher lectures at Curtin (alternative to UWA, has actuarial science) so i'll ask him about economics.

Looks like B.Comm/B.Mathematics (Major statistics/w/e UWA has) is the best bet

you can go into trading with any degree.. in fact the job almost require nothing beyond what you learnt in year 6

Correct. But you generally need to be quick with your maths, and be decent with some degree of stats as they will ask you probability questions in the interview. (at least sig do)
