While an APS accredited degree, the BA-Psych component of the BA-Psy LLB is not for someone interested in becoming a psychologist...it won't qualify her for honours.
Really?

Why won't the psych department let a person with a combined BA (Psych) / LLB do the BA (Psych)(Hons) year?

It's not that they won't. But if you follow the requirements for the BA-Psy/LLB, the necessary units would not be complete.

*Credit Point Requirement in Psychology
19 credit points at 200 level and 16 credit points at 300 level

A combined psy/law student would complete 15/16 pts at 200 and 12 at 300 level in a normal program. They could always do extra units, but this would take them longer than the 5 years to complete the double degree.

*Units
PSY232 (to be PSY240 and PSY241 for 2006) is core for honours, but it's not part of the BA(Psy)/LLB program. If a law/psych student wants to be considered for honours and has the necessary GPA for this unit, they would need to include it in their studies - which is full as it is with 28 credit pts of law+psy to do at 200-level and 24 at 300-level.
