I would be subbing V/root 3 into the equation in iii and then making that equal to x at when time = 0 but i dont know. That is what i would do. BTW you are hectic doing 1992. I wish i worked all year so i could be up to around there.

Or sub u into iii and then get what d = and then have d also equals V^2 / 2 (root 3) g and see what you get.

but gd = v2/2rt3

so Vcos@ - v2/2rt3/2Vsin@ < V/rt3
cos@ - 1/[4rt(3)sin@] < 1/rt3

which you can make f(@)<1/rt3 (using the equation in part a)
but from the graph f(x) = cosx - 1/[4rt(3)sinx] you can see that for all x in the domain 0<x<=pi.2 there are two values of x for all values of f(x)<1/rt3 (as 1/rt3 is the max turning point).

Therefore there are two solution of @ that satisfy the equation f(@)<1/rt3 in the domain, and for each value of @, t will vary, and therefore the distance will vary

i think midifile got the right track.. because i remember doing it like that just simple subbin in ..

ok here is the question.. thanks lym

a particle is projected form a point p on horizontal ground with speed V m/s at an angle of elevation to the horizontal of alpha

u can assume the horizontal and vertical displacemnt from p after t seconds..

ii) detmine its flght of the particle ( done it )

iii) the particle reach a point Q through it journey but then it makes an angle beta with the horizntal..

show that the time taken to travel from P to Q is giving by

vsin(alpha-beta)/gcosbeta

???

does this make sense to anyone..

asumin that ii) is true ffrom p and then changing the angle to beta for the seond one.. and then using time of flight of p - time of flight of q = answer ??

anyone understand what im saying ??

I think thats what you are meant to do. I just figured because in the question before it, it tells you to look at the graph, so that question follows on the same idea.

EDIT: I just looked at the answer in my past paper book, and it also says to look at the graph

is it because there was an component of time in it.. why didn't u first think of

time of flight of the first particle minus time of flight of the second particle ??

this is the same solutions they have in the book ??

Its pretty much the same thing anyway. P is the origin, so its time of flight is 0.

Either way, even if you were gonna do it that way it would be t(q) - t(p), which is t(q) - 0 which is just the time of flight of q

wtf are u talking about? Unless i misunderstood your question, ther is ONLY 1 particle being projected that passes through a point Q where it makes an angle
