hey ppl,

i know you've all done basic algebra and I'm doin it right now with some factorisation problems. If you could provide a solution/s that'd be great!

1. (a+b) ^2 - c^2 a^2 + ab -ac - bc
------------------------ x ----------------------- =
a^2 + ab + ac +bc a + b + c


2. x + y + x^2 + y^2 1 + x - y
------------------------ / ------------ =
x^2 + 2xy + y^2 2x + 2y


3. p^2 - (q + r)^2 p - q - r
------------------------- / ---------------------------- =
p^2 + pq - pr - qr p^2 - pq - pr + qr

1. I think someone mentioned it. But this is quite tedious question. First, you have to use the difference of two squares to separate (a+b)^2 - c^2. And then for other equations, you collect the same terms and then you factorise by getting rid of the same terms from the top and the bottom.

2. For question two, this is basica trinomial question. You have to factorise top and bottom and get rid of all the like terms.

3. Same.

If you really cannot do it, I will post up answers later. Good luck.

just remember to look for difference of two squares, and if you can group
eg. grouping: p^2 + pq - pr - qr
= p(p + q) - r(p + q)
= (p - r)(p + q)

x + y + x^2 - y^2
= x + y + (x-y)(x+y)
note that there is a like term of x + y
= 1(x+y) + (x-y)(x+y)
= (x-y+1)(x+y)

and remember difference of two squares works for for more than one term in the square, eg
p^2 - (q + r)^2
= (p + (q + r))(p - (q+r))
= (p+q+r)(p-q-r)

everything else should be easy
