velox: Their website runs hot and cold. For some degrees or areas it is great, in other areas it is pretty much useless and you have to really dig around for info. If you can't find something, try both an external google search and an internal one with various possible keywords.

There's plenty of info on the residential colleges (I'm going for Union College). There's not so much info on scholarships (suffice to say, if you plan to get 99(/98), grab a form and send it away). If you plan to do anything related to biological science as your undergraduate degree, you'll be swimming in information, since the BACS (bio and chem) faculty is perhaps the strongest one at the uni (UQ = one of best bio unis in southern hemisphere).

There's a talented students programme available if you plan to do something in BACS (so something with a bit of bio or chem). About 40 people get into that each year, so it's competitive. It involves research projects (among other things) in (sometimes 1st,) 2nd and 3rd year, rather than having to wait till 4th year. I tell you this because it's unlikely you'll hear about it otherwise.

Re USyd vs UNSW: I go by this rule: List preferences in order of desire, not order of UAI.

Yeh i'd be looking at a chem undergrad degree.

Can I ask a question? Does the order of preferences actually matter? Coz I figure that if you get offered a course which is 1 in your preferences you're gonna get offered if it's in preference 9...

No because it goes in order. I.e. if you get preference 1 you wont be considered for preferences 2-9 unless you reject 1, and then you have to go into the next round of offers.

I'd just prefer to either stay in Newcastle or go to Wollongong.
Engineering here is supposedly the best in the state, plus, I like it in Newcastle!

But I'd rather not go to Sydney, ANYWHERE in Sydney, unless I absolutely have to.
It's too big. I don't like that many people all crammed into a small space.

Ah ok. Depends where you live really :p Plus sydney is much more expensive.
Yeah, I'm not applying for any Sydney uni's either. I'm applying for UNCLE but that's about as urban as I'll get. I'm a country girl at heart :)

2. Arts/ Law 91 UOW
3. Psychology(honours) 94.05 MQ
4. science (psychology)/Law 95 ANU
5. medical science/Law 91 UOW or science/law 91 UOW
6. psychology 95.05 UNSW
7. science/commerce 93.60 USYD
8. Arts ( international studies)/law 90.05 UC
9. psychology 80 UWS

i have two options for 6 because they are both from uow and they have the same uai. because i heard that if you have more preferences in a combined degree you have more chance of getting in.

i am sure that my preferences are due to change after i get my uai. it will change to something that will consist of nothing in the 90s :(

B Arts in Communication (Journalism) @ UTS [93.2]
B Communication @ UWS [75.05]
B Communication and Media Studies (Journalism) @ UW [90]
B Communication (Journalism) @ UC [75.35]
B Communication (Journalism)/ B Arts @ UC [75]
B Arts @ USyd [83.45]
B Media in Writing @ Macquarie [85.15]

Lol, can you sense a theme here? My teachers insist I can get in the 90's but judging by my severe procrastination problem I'd say I'm heading to UWS - unfortunately it's at the Penrith Campus which is an hour away from my house. At least this way I can plead for my own car :D.

I have no idea what im doing but anyway:

[1] B Laws/ B Arts in International Studies UTS (waiting for fullfee-cutoff)
[2] B Arts/ B Laws UNSW 94.15 (FF)
[3] B International Studies/B Laws 94.15 (FF)
[4] B Arts- Psychology/ B Laws MQ 95.65
[5] B Arts/ B Laws USYD 96.15 (FF)

And yeh...hmmm i suck. Im like willing to pay FullFee for almost everything cos i know i wont make it in for the Hecs Cutoffs, so im hoping i can like transfer to a Hecs-Supported place after a year. Btw, does anyone know when UTS are releasing their fullfee cutoffs?

And oh, also- do u have to consult your school about preferences cos i hate my Careers advisor and shes gonna make sure im not gonna do any of these. Shes a total bitch/

If you want to do engineering you should go to UNSW....its the premiere engineering faculty in Australia.

UNSW is in the one place I want to avoid if at all possible.
Newcastle used to be a mining town, so the facilities at UNCLE for mining and chemical engineering are supposed to be better than UNSW.

Did you go to the chemical engineering lecture at Newcastle open day? Because that really put me off engineering at Newcastle. Its UNSW for me now but I have no idea what my preferences are yet. I'll probably decide at the last minute.
