Also new computer in next few weeks yayayay so pumped!
tell me what these things meanjust short stroked and lba modded my hard drive
samsung spinpoint f3 1tb (short stroked down to 100gb) ~ $60
in comparison, western digital velociraptor ~$140 for 150gb model
also, kingston ssdnow 64gb
i could've short stroked it down to 150gb and it still would've destroyed the velociraptor in everything besides access time (nothing can make up for that 10000 rpm lol)
ssd access times are amazing but a short stroked hdd will beat it in raw throughput
but srsly, velociraptors are stupid
hard drive speedstell me what these things mean
Also how can something have -1% CPU usage
Grouseyeah i was looking at getting the Ti.
try to get an NEC chipset optical drive instead if you canASUS DRW-24B3ST 24X DVDRW Drive
radeon hd6950 is fasterGainward GeForce GTX 560 Ti 1GB Golden Sample
samsung spinpoint f3 1tbWestern Digital Caviar Blue 1TB WD10EALX
make sure it's 1.5V ramKingston ValueRAM KVR1333D3N9K2/8G 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3
Okay thanks will look into thistry to get an NEC chipset optical drive instead if you can
e.g. Sony Opticarc AD-7280 or the older pioneer drives (the newer drives have crap chipsets)
they're the best drives but it doesn't matter too much since you won't be using the optical drive much
Don't really want an ATI GPU due to problems friends have had.radeon hd6950 is faster

Wouldn't it be better to get a SATA III instead of 2 though or does that not really matter though? I had this before I went over it with friends, f3 is only $4 more so it doesn't bother me.samsung spinpoint f3 1tb
the fastest consumer hdd currently on the market iirc
many stores don't have it in stock due to high demand but if you can get one then it'll be much better than a caviar blue (even caviar black)
It is 1.5v, i made sure to checkmake sure it's 1.5V ram
older/cheaper 1.65V ram is not good for sandy bridge, can fry the memory controller (actually intel says 1.65V is the upper limit)
no point getting sata 3 in a hddWouldn't it be better to get a SATA III instead of 2 though or does that not really matter though? I had this before I went over it with friends, f3 is only $4 more so it doesn't bother me.
Optiarc was a joint venture between Sony and NEC so all recent sony optiarc drives will have themWow okay f3 it is then
hmm is there a way i can find out more about this NEC chipset thing, like which drives will have it if it doesnt say on pccg site?
Hmm alright cheers, I might just stick with the ASUS thing, the only thing I use optical drive for is installing games.oh and definitely don't get this: http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=658_667&products_id=16397
i bought one just because i wanted my pc to look nice (only drive without ugly white branding)
but it sounds like a vacuum cleaner
