Were you listening in class ???

Real-time processng is immediate processing of data and requires access to an online database
eg airline reservation system
banking transaction system
library loan system
POS terminal

about processing systems....

It seems that if a major backup were to be stored, a system such as CD woul be inappropriate. I would be necessary that there would be a major server that would store all of this information. What medium this would be is another question, perhaps magnetic tape? It seems obvious that CD's would be insufficcient for the needs of the system.

Also, it would be probable that the system would be largely modulated, over a WAN. As such, the surnames beginning with (A) would be in a different graphical location than surnames beginning with (S) for example.

hope that helped...

Storage:
Removable cartridges ( zip disks)
Magnetic tapes
Optical discs ( if its not long term)
or
Electronic document management systems
Data warehousing

Data is either text, numbers, audio, video, images so which do YOU think would be found in a POS ??

Mission critical data (ie deposits, flight reservations) needs to be real time
Other data can be batch

you really don't wish to think about this yourself do you ......... :(

Library Loan system

Borrowers database
Book Suppliers database
Book database

would be linked in a relational database - then consider advantages of R D/B
