Find the coefficients a and b.

If possible, I'd like to avoid long division...

P(1)=a+b+1=0
P'(1)=7a+6b=0
a=6, b=-7

Hmm well, not quite sure but as a starting point (if you have not already), differentiate the polynomial, since there is a root of multiplicity 2, then the first derivative must also be divisible by (x-1)

then just go on from there.
