1. What are the true difficult concepts in prelim physics and chemistry?
2. What kinds of things really differentiate between gifted and average physics and chemistry students?
3. How much prac stuff is in half yearly and yearly exams?
4. How important are pracs overall?
5. How much of pracs do you truly need to know? ie for the compulsory pracs in the syllabus, what elements of the prac must you know?
6. How much synthesis kind of stuff do prelim physics and chem require, as in, to make your own opinion or to analyse the effectiveness of something?
7. How hard is it overall to get 100 in half yearly and yearly phys and chem?
8. How hard is it overall to get 100 in HSC phys and/or chem? Obviously noone gets both, essentially just want to know what are the barriers which prevent people from getting 100 in one or both
9. What is the difficulty of getting 100 in chem and/or phys RELATIVE TO SOMETHING OF YOUR CHOICE?

1. Depends on the individual really as some people prefer calculations and others prefer content.
2. Average and gifted? Depends how passionate the student is.... A student who just did them for the scaling will most likely find themselves to be average....

4. Prac assessments are important
5. The pracs in teh syllabus
6. Uhhh
7. Wayy too hard
8. Near impossible
9. Harder obviously. A student passionate in business studies will more likely get higher marks (e.g. 100) compared to doing physics or chemistry.

Getting 100 in any course is pretty much impossible.

1. What i think are difficult/vital concepts
Prelim physics: Using the inverse square law troubles some people.
Using the correct formulae in moving about and electricity in the home
Fully understanding vectors
Understanding potential difference

Prelim chemistry: Fully understanding and knowing how to apply the mole concept
Understanding intermolecular forces (dispersion, dipole-dipole, hydrogen)
Heat capacity
Knowing how to write correct chemical equations

2. Able to link cause and effect or speak logically during your answers, shows a deep understanding of the content compared to those who simply spill out all they know.

3. Unsure, maybe 1-2 questions? Shouldn't be too much.

4. They are very important. They generally make up minimum 15% of your course mark.

5. You need to know all of the practicals in the syllabus even if you haven't performed them at school. This includes the equipment, method, results and discussion.

6. Whenever there's and 'assess' or 'justify'. These often come up.

7. Possibly, but you really need to nail every point when answering questions. The marking criteria could be specific though and what you write might not include that minute detail.

8. Pretty hard. I don't think anyone gets 100 in either of them? 97+ is already a state ranking.

9. I don't get this.

All depends on the person. For a lot of people in chem its moles and heat of combustion. In physics, I'd say vectors for sure, all that 'relative to' stuff, snell's law and the refractive index gets a few people too.

2. What kinds of things really differentiate between gifted and average physics and chemistry students?
Understanding the concepts. Its not enough to rote learn something. You must be able to understand how its possible/how it works.

3. How much prac stuff is in half yearly and yearly exams?
Usually only a question or two. Just as long as you can recount the method, your set.

4. How important are pracs overall?
Not as important as a normal outcome but you need to be able to recount the method and equipment used as least.

5. How much of pracs do you truly need to know? ie for the compulsory pracs in the syllabus, what elements of the prac must you know?
Method. If you can remember the method, you can make up the equipment list from that and the variables you should be able to figure out.

They love to throw in evaluate questions so you'll need to make a judgement statement.

Depends on your school.

Hard.

Very difficult. If you don't like something, you're not going to do as well.
