Yeh well I go to North Sydney Boys but i'm not really doing too well there sorta slightly below average in most of my subjects and like last in 2 subjects.

My marks are approximately

Economics 75%ish rank 17/about 60 (but I did really badly in trial)
English Advanced 70% 75/130
2U Maths 65% 35/60
3U Maths <12% last or 2nd last/55
Physics Not even worth considering coming last. Prob dropping soon
Chemistry 60% 45/60
Biology 65% 2/13

This is without factoring in my trials which were shocking overall.

I'm aiming for pharmacy which requires like a 96. Hoping to study while trying to transfer to medicine and most unis like have a 50% UAI/Uni results thing where if my UAI is too low then I don't even have a chance of getting in. (I also forgot about UMAT so thats why transfer is necessary).

Should I just give up and look at other uni courses that don't need a UAI that high. Like something around the 85 range? because I dont really want to waste my UAC preferences thing.

So is my UAI looking <90? or is it higher?

haha

thats like pushing 60.

Its a competitive HSC.
you need to be looking at 80's/90's for ALL subjects to get near pharmacy.

Head down, AND WORK :)

Does the school count for anything? Its selective ranked like 7th i think so if everyone else does well do I get pushed up as well?

Also Physics and 3U maths will prob not be counted as I do 13 units.

If you did shocking in trials, I'd say under 90, maybe mid 80s.

Yes but not anything overly significant.

i know a guy there whos coming like top of all of his subjects. i guestimate a .95, maybe the hundy. people like that will bring you up mate, you shoukd be able to scrape an 85 or so if u put ur head down for the hsc exams. maybe even more, id say, if u can just bone them

LottoX: i agree with you... its hard to believe a school thats ranked 7th, would come 2nd with a mark of 50%?

:p

hi,

i was wondering if u could do the same for me? (I go to a shcool which does not perform very well UAI - wise). my subjects and my approximate ranks are:

advanced english 10/35
mathematics 8/40
legal 8/27
business studies 8/30
biology 6/35

would it be possible to estimate UAI from this? I don't think the trials will change my ranking much.

thankyou

That's quite good, but I don't know your schools rank so it could actually range from anywhere from 70 to 90...
School's rank is not going to make that kind of difference......

I don't know how many times it's been said but...

Marks aren't important at all, give us your ranks.

exactly, people think if they go to James Ruse they'll all get 99.99-well you wont unless you work your ass off as well, the higher the average is the lower your rank/marks will be if you dont work as well.
The only way in which you are advantaged is that as a cohort your school performs well because the majority of people work hard, therefore when it comes to your actual HSC exam, compared with the rest of the state you should ace them-but that doesn't suddently come out of nowhere, you obviously have to have the knowledge to perform well in the exam!

School will pull you up a bit, but its definitely not going to add 10points to your UAI

I have known people who come from top selective schools and get mid-70's and 80's and then people from average high schools who have managed 90's!
My school was ranked just under 90th ...and my friend pulled a 99.95, but she worked bloody hard!

yeah - dunno about the school's ranking. when i was reading through some other threads i read one where the person thought their school ranked about 300-400. while it sounds terrible i think my school maybe would be like that (and i'm NOT trying to put my school down or anything - i'm just saying it how it is).

in that case i'm probabaly doomed? thanks anyway :(

Fundamentally, your argument is flawed; it's impossible to get 99.99.
you're missing the point, but my bad -let it be 99.95 or even 100!

yeah thats what im saying, as a cohort, if you all do well you'll raise your marks. But you have to put in work as well, its not just that you lay back and think the rest of the year will give you a good uai.
