Just wondering...what kind of topics did u guys do for your PIPs?

mine is a cross-cultural comparison on the media presentation/portrayal and social acceptance of two pop icons: Marilyn Monroe (1926-1962) and Britney Spears (1981 - present)

I did Animal Assisted Therapies for mine. Other people in my class did body images, immigration, cloning, astrology and a couple of others. Did you find yours interesting?

I did Depression and its effects on adolescents in Australia.

I found my PIP very interesting and the statistics were scary.
When I had to give my pip to my teacher to hand in for the final time, I just wanted to grab it back and do so much more to it!

It was hard work, but interesting.

My PIP was about how Australian society & Aboriginal cultural/individual identity are affected by the representation of indigenous peoples in the visual media...it really opened my eyes as to how racism can be perpetuated through television...

I decided to extend our Popular Culture topic of Coca Cola into my PIP, and did mine on Coca Cola and what affects the consumption of it... yeah... sounds pretty boring but it was pretty interesting and came together okay in the end. I wanted to do it on Cystic Fibrosis but living in a remote place there aren't many people out here with CF to interview...

Our class put out some interesting PIPs... some of the topics included (just breif descriptions)

*Different generations views on sex
*How have the events of 9/11/01 changed the world?
*An evaluation of the New P1 and P2 system, and P-plates attitudes towards driving
*The effect Television has on young children
*How the lyrics of songs influence teenagers...

I think overall our class put together soem very good PIPs :)

I studied the effects that music has on mentally challenged intellectuals and compared them to those you are not mentally challenged.

Other people in my class did-

- Father/son relationships
- Women and sport
- Dreams
- Perceptions of Beauty
- The changing values of women throughout time

I did mine of how siblings effect socialisation, using China's one child policy as a cross cultural component.

I did Animal Welfare: An exploration into the treatment of animals and people's perception of such treatment. But it wasnt very good...does anyone know if we get back our pips or ever find out our marks (my teacher does not know)?

We get the PIPs back (well, they're sent back to the school and its up to us whether we go and get them or not) but we don't find out the individual mark...for instance, say someone gets 80/100 in their HSC results, they could take a guess at their approximate PIP mark (which counts for like 30% or something) but we will never know the exact number...I find that kind of annoying!

I did mine on social attitudes towards female genital mutilation (fgm) in africa... i actually really enjoyed mine, fortunately it continuously interested me throughout the whole process :)

But it's so annoying that we never find out our exact mark!! Our teacher has got copies of all of ours and, as he is an HSC marker, giving us approximate marks, so that we have some idea :)

Mine was:

Does TV accurately portray real life? It was a fun topic to do!

Howdy All

My PIP was on the effectiveness of strategies designed to combat bullying and harassment in high schools. As boring as that sounds, it was a real eye opener. I was actually quite stunned by what i discovered.

Wow, that's pretty cool that yours was like a discovery thing..Mine wasn't. It was fun though. I got to watch a lot of my favourite shows and write about them for an assignment. Can't get any better than that! :)

I did my PIP on dreams...and my main aim was to find out why people would want their dreams interpreted and if dreams have any significance on our daily lives. It was fun and interesting coz it made me think about my own dreams and how they can really reflect how we are feeling the previous day....i got to interview a dream interpreter to, so that was kinda cool :D

Did y'all pick up your pips from school? Does it look like it's been read? (Getting it returned in cruddy condition is a *good* thing! Means they read it!)
I forgot to pick mine up, I'll get it soon though.
