hey just wanted to get some feedback on my PIP focus question, which is ' How and why has the celebration of Christmas changed in Australia over the past 30 years?

Through this question I will be able to explore ideas such as:

Commercialization
multiculturalism
secularization
position of women and changes in the workforce
demographic changes/ changes in the family structure

what do u all think of it???

Definitely one of the better topic I've seen. It could be a very interesting topic if you manage to integrate a lot of personal experience into it. Like a brief description of the Christmas dinner in your family, and how it has changed over the years. Ultimately brings you to your whole point of your PIP.

Good luck! :)

thanx heaps for ur feed back!
just another quick question.... do u think it would b a good idea to change my focus question to sound more intriging/ interesting cuz i think at da moment it sounds realli boring!!!
And i personally would not be motivated to read a pip with that focus question!

(i used personal reflection during the Christmas period to reflect upon the changes)

Cool!

Hi,

I really like your topic. You could come up with a catchy title that obviously has something to do with your topic. So you could do "Have yourself a Merry Little Christmas" or something like that.

I was wondering if I could get some feedback on my topic. I've decided to do my PIP on Coke vs Pepsi: Image or Preference. I want to do taste testing, focus groups and interviews with people of different ages. I have done some research and am designing my questionnaire that will go with the taste testing. That way I can focus on globalisation, westernisation, consumerism etc.

Thanks!! :D

Mishka i think ur topic is really unique which is good:) and in addition to using globalisation, westernisation, consumerism u could incorporate social theories of teens ect to prove ur primary research which would more than likely be teens go for the image trying to fit in with the friends. i think the social theories would strongly back up your primary research!

Also you could write to both pepsi and coke and ask who there target market is (more than liekly teens) and send questionnaires to them b/c it is goin to be very diffilcult to get secondary research

good luck!

hmmm...Maybe you can try: "HO HO HO. Did Santa gained weight, or is it just your illusion? " - a PIP evaluating continuity and change in Christmas celelbration over the past 30 years:rofl: does it sound corny? well, I just though it would be funny and make the markers eagerly wanting to read your PIP.

Personal reflection is one of the best methodology to approach past events, such as past christmas dinners/events.

mishka, your topic is also one of the better topic I have seen. One problem I have is that what are you trying to find out? from your post, I've realised that your topic is diverging into two separate topics. One about preferences, for example, which, Coke or Pepsi taste better, and on the other hand, you are investigate how Coke and Pepsi influence other cultures via concepts such as globalisation/commercialism/westernisation.

You should keep your PIP specific to gain the best potential mark possible. :)

Thanx!

Thank you both so much for your advice and help!!

It's nice to know that there are people out there who are willing to lend a hand!!

I will take your advice, Survivor, and narrow down my topic further so it's more manageable!!

Thanks again!!!

It's almost impossible to find an orginal topic to an extend which it has never attempted before. Your topic is fine. And I hope your focus question works! :)

Maybe you can change it to Santa losing weight, instead of gaining. :D

All these topics are very cool! I've heard so many interesting topics and again so many differing takes on past topics - it's really cool.

having said that:rolleyes:  - What do you think of mine?

ADHD: The Phantom Condition

OR

ADHD: The Condition Behind the Controversy (Dunno - haven't decided yet)

- "An investigation into changeing attitudes towards Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder in the United Kingdom"

Comments??

sounds ok, i think you would need to touch on religion anyway so yes its a good idea to incorporate both culture and religion
btw why did u pick those specific nationalities, just curious

wow - this thread is old!! this dates back to when i was trying to figure out my PIP!! :D

@dasde : the PIP topic seems to be way too broad. how are you going to do primary and secondary research?? also, how are you going to be able to generalise about chinese girls and turkish girls as a whole??

maybe you could bring it down to microworld level - compare the differences between teenage boys and girls belief in astrology or something - although there may not be sufficient secondary research to go by.

you need something that's manageable... your PIP topic is a bit broad at the moment. :)

And if anyone can give me any ideas on this topic area it would be great because im not so sure whether or not this is a good hypothesis, and do you think i should add in religion? for example change it to Buddhist Chinese girls and Muslim Turkish girls?
Any help would be great thanks!
I think thats a good start. As mishka and usnac mentioned, you may have to write about both b/c it narrows the idea down (which makes it more.........redefined so you have a specific area) and also b/c when you might interview these people, they may mention that religion does influence the astrological thingy :)
