i found curious case pedestrian and i now i know why - it's a copy of forrest gump. i've finally figured out my detection mechanism, if i don't like a movie that's been hyped, it probably means i've seen it before and the movie's unoriginal.

Disappointed about the Revolutionary Road/WALL-E snub, would've like to see Leo get a nod for RR.

I'm so disappointed with the lack of success for The Dark Knight. When will the Academy take comic book and animated films seriously? And why are the no nods for Gran Torino? I have officially lost all respect for the Academy Awards.

I thought Nolan was a bit stiff for a best director nom but lets face it, rightly or wrongly, the Dark Knight was never going to be nommed for best picture.

I hope Frost/Nixon cleans up the Oscars. A near flawless film. Langella for best actor, Frost/Nixon for best film, van Sant for best director (Milk was the controversial Hollywood biopic that the academy loves) and Ledger for best supporting actor in the major male categories. On the female side, I haven't really seen enough of the movies to make even a educated opinion.

The only nailed on certainty is Wall-E for best animated film. You would like to think Ledger is too but the academy will not want this to be perceived as a sympathy vote and in a perverse way count against him.

I think you are blinded by fanaticism.

The Dark Knight was a great film, I loved it. But Eckhart and Oldman were no where near the best performances of the year. The screenplay was well written, but the overall plot was far fetched and the Joker's plan absolutly far-fetched.

Other reasons why it didn't have a chance is that there isn't many people that can relate to it. Who are we supposed to feel identified with? That's why love stories are always successful at award ceremonies, everyone's been in love and knows how it feels so you root for the lead character to get the girl.

But this has nothing to do with the future of comic book movies. They are being more respected and when the right one is made it will win awards. If "Maus" is ever adapted it would definitly be a contender.

The only graphic novel based film I thought had an unfair reception was "Road to Perdition" a few years ago. Great screenplay, cinematography, performances and overall a great film. But didn't receive any of the major nominations, only Paul Newman for best supporting actor.

Who is "they"??? The Academy Award voters?

Why is everyone under the assumption that the Oscar's are chosen by a small group of old scholars that don't even watch movies?

Most of the voters are actors, Samuel L. "Motherfucker" Jackson votes at the Oscars.

Over 5000 people vote at the Oscars, most of them are former nominees, and some others have been chosen by their careers.

Sure there most be some of those 5000 that didn't even watch "The Dark Knight"... but I think a lot of them saw it and just didn't think it was one of the 5 best films of the year.

But it hasn't been snubbed because it's based on a comic book, that's just conspiracy paranoia. If that had been the case it wouldn't have gotten the great reviews it got from most of the critics (most of them pretentious snobs)
