Is anyone doing Optometry at the moment? I was wondering if someone could give me some info about the course like:

Is it hard to get in?
Is the course interesting?
What are the hours like?
Whats the workload like?
What opportunities do you have after graduating?

Thanks!:D

Lol I'm doing optometry

The UAI cut off is 98.30 this year, so u decide how hard it is to get in

The course at the beginning is kinda boring, but semester 2 looks really promising :)

Hours : 25 hours a week, so pretty intense

workload is quite large, so u gotta want to work i think

opportunities, as i understand it are awesome !

BTW, im a first year student :)

hmm, our year has 48 people but thats quite low, coz the year above us has 56 to 60 people.

I believe 10 % of the positions available are fee paying so:

about 5 or 6 full fee paying students.

However, the lowest UAI fee payer in our class this year got over 95 anyway...so its pretty intense competition anyway.

We have like 5 or 6 ppl who transferred from another course, so theres potential for that as well !

Good luck to you kimmeh :)

woah 48 isn't a lot of places at all, even 60 isn't a lot! i mean compared to other courses have have hundreds of spots! hahaha its gonna be tough. But is it true that since there aren't many optometry schools in Aust, graduates are high in demand?

lol yes its true
i believe, that unlike commerce etc, only 3 unis in australia offer optom -
UNSW
Melbourne
Queensland Technical Uni

or something

So theres prolly only bout 150 ppl graduating each year.

no doesnt mean it is better as such....the reason why vet and opt have so few places is cos there are very few places avail...much the same story as aerospace engineering in sydney
