well finally ive got some cash and ive decided that i finally want to upgrade my comp solely to play call of duty 4.

Here are my specs:

AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor
3200+
2.01 GHz, 1.00 GB of RAM

card: RADEON 9550

..

would a geforce 8600 be sufficient? what price range?
would i need anything else with that?
how long will it take to install a card like that?

Get a MSI 8800GT for $379 got it from a ITSky in tempe

You should go to 2 gib 800mhz ram about $95 in the capitol computer.

8600GT is around 149-329 dollar depend on your budget.

Install the graphic card is easy. Just remove your 9550 and insert your new card in the same slot. After that just install the driver and your off.

so i only need a new graphics card and more ram, can i get like another 1 gb of ram, or do i get rid of my 1 gb ram and replace it with a 2gb ram??

you can buy a stick for about 45 dollar if your want or you want to upgrade to full 3gb if you want.

If i was you i would upgrade the cpu too to like quad E6600 or something because your CPU is old but then you need to buy a Intel mobo to work with intel comp.

Well my setup was very so like yours i have and amd 3500+, 1gig ram and i just bought a radeon 2600xt. Now i can play COD4 very easily.

COD4 is mad onlinee, single player is rather short as i finished it in a matter of hours lol (with no hardcore play).

I'll vouch for that, my friend's got the same rig and is able to play COD4...i'd look at 2gig ram. Use staticice for massive damage.

Make sure your card is PCI-e.

its why i want COD4, i use to play cod 2 (big red one) on ps2 online through the slim console. im in love with online-play, i abosultely love it, use to play bf 2 for hours.

Upgrade to 2 gb of ram
oh yeh and the game cod 4,

and ill be set?

would it cost me more then $400?

sadly yes unless your mobo support ddr1 and 2 because my 1 support ddr 3 aswell soo i think you have to check with your hand book.

You can get a DDR2 Mobo for cheap like 50 dollar from a comp store.

The thing with buying cheap motherboards is that there quality isent guaranteed you should be spending around $200 on a good quality motherboard, however im not much of a computer person but if your gonna buy something make sure its of good quality and will be useful for future upgrades.
P.S i too am building an entirely new pc for the sole purpose of COD4 and team fortress 2 + my comp is dead using my dads comp CANT INSTALL ON IT cause if it fucks up im dead:uhhuh:

Just get a gigabyte around 150 dollar it cheap and it can handle anything even with my OC cpu and OC 2x sli 8800GT
