UTS is regarded to be one of the best, if not the best, when it comes to nursing. I think the connections the uni has for placements will give you a wider variety of options and it has fantastic facilities.

Hey clarisse,

Well UTS is the bomb so that's a pro ;) Haha but seriously I have heard that although ND do a shitload of prac you get sent out to work as an extra set of hands, to ease the workload of the RNs. At UTS we do a little less but they really do teach you a lot on prac and make sure they have enough nurses on so they take the time and explain things, etc.

UTS is extremely well known for producing excellent grads, though there is a nursing shortage so whether it's ND or UTS you're likely to get a job.

Oh and UTS is affiliated with over 100 hospitals so you really have a good chance of a wide variety of prac placements. Not sure about ND specifically but other unis are only affiliated with 4 or 5 hospitals.

Go to UTS. I know a few ND Nursing students and they always seem so stressed about the amount of work they have to do when you add their extra prac plus core curriculum in. Also since ND is still a relatively new uni in NSW it might be better to go to UTS.

If you want reputation, go to UTS
If you want good practical experienced and a seriously recognised degree, go to UTS
If you want lower fee's, go to UTS
If you want a smarter cohort, go to UTS

Hell, UTS is even closer to the station

Just go to UTS, if you were serious about going to ND you wouldn't even be posting :)

my friend was faced with the same dilemma last year -
UTS at Kuring gai campus or Notre Dame.. she picked ND and hates it.
Not only is it more expensive than UTS and other public universities,
you are forced to do theology and other religion subjects, which doesn't
appeal to everyone.. so on top of nursing, you'll be studying Ethics
in regards to things such as abortion etc. She also complains that it's a
crap social life, as Nursing for ND is isolated in the Darlinghurst campus
rather than the Broadway one where most faculties are. The work placement
in Semester 1 & 2 is also limited, as ND doesn't have as many hospital agreements, as compared to UTS and other major unis.. not many options (hospitals to pick from) which can pose a problem for those who live far away.

While UTS is a bit of a hassle.. not just the long train ride there, but the bus (train station is 2.3km away from the campus), i think it is worth it. You will focus on ONLY nursing, not extra religion-based subjects, have more opportunities when it comes to placement and a better social life - there are lots of students there from various faculties.
