Awww...what a shame...
A score of 100.00 has a much nicer ring to it when emphasising the top than 99.95 haha.....

Would this mean that more people would be able to attain the top score? (e.g. If 20 people score 100.00 UAI on average, would that mean 20 people score 99.95 ATAR on average?)

It will be interesting to see how universities will change their academic scholarship (previously for UAIs of 99.95 and 100.00) schemes after this...

this is so weird.

at the end of year 12, i never envisioned myself saying "HAY GUISE GUESS WHAT I GOT FOR MY ATAR!!! OMG WAT DID U GET FOR UR ATAR???"

just sounds very strange.

the james ruse kids will be so upset over this.

Ok here are my issues:

What's the point in changing to this "ATAR" now if the HSC is going to cease to exist in a few years?

International recognition? Does this advantage us?

"There's no such thing as a perfect child when it comes to the HSC" - doesn't this mean that if the top is 99.95, then those who get that will be 'perfect' because it's the top?

And why 99.95? Why not keep it as just a nice clean 100. It's more easily percentage-able.

This could throw some people off, 'psychologically damaging' people who have been saying UAI 100 since they were born. (Not me, of course)

This also means I will have to remove my "UAI 100" poster from my wall, and change my favourite number to 99.95. (basically making my previous comment redundant)

Oh, also, there are grammar mistakes in that letter from the UAC that was sent out.

Stupid reasons for changing it and stupid education scheme that has never been properly organised.

If they are telling us 4 months away from our actual HSC, shouldn't these changes NOT apply to the 2009ers and apply to next year's HSC group? It just seems that this has come hastily and without warning - we should have at least been offered the courtesy of being told of 'minor' changes like this at least the year before!

ALSO, "A-TAR" sounds re-tarded.

I'm sticking with saying UAI, and I'm still aiming for 100, no matter what I'm being force-fed by incompetent governmental policies.

I need to punch something.

STILL AIMING FOR UAI 100 - UAI'ERS UNITE!!!

"ATAR" can eat shit and die. I'm saying UAI. It's what I've been saying since year 7, and it has grown on me. No-one change the signatures! You can still have UAI aims, no matter what these UAC bastards are telling you.

That's what I want to know, I didn't even attend Year 7 in this country.
yeah, what about the people who came from outside the nsw school system? or montessori/other alternative education schools where they don't have 'years' as such.

SO FUCKING TRUE. So many people were upset about no 100 etc lolol. Then the teachers told them it was basically a name change and 99.95 = 100. That cheered them up. Also compared to Year means that all the people that started school in Year 7 get counted. Basically more dropkicks are stacked at the bottom, and those that come into this country later just get compared to the same Year 7s despite not being a part of them.

lololol

tbh i think it's more of a mental thing, 100 just sounds so much better than 99.95. if you've mentally prepared yourself to achieve 100, it's gonna fuck with you a little.

i can't say it's not messing with my head a little, i have been saying UAI for far too long now.

I guess now all the Tuition Colleges (i.e. Matrix Education, Talent 100) have to change their UAI talks into ATAR.

just as i began to understand the UAI system too. damn.

i guess SAM is now somewhat meaningless with this new system. although i suppose it would still work if you just looked at your ATAR conversion?

gonna have to be the ATAR calculator now :D

I expect the universities to update to their prospectuses to include ATAR conversions for their courses.
