You gotta let the people of the nation decide where they want to go. If the people of Syria want a new government, overthrowing the old one isn't a bad strat. Off course guns isn't ideal. Also one man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter.

I think you missed the part where I said LARGELY FOREIGN. And there is no sense in which the people wanting to overthrow Assad were fighting for freedom.

And yes, overthrowing middle east/north african governments was a terrible strategy - look at the arab spring.
