What books have people read at school?

Currently I'm reading Pride and Prejudice and am forcing myself through it:rofl: (i like the plot and all, but it is like an 18th Century soapie). I've also come to the conclusion and ask myself what am I getting out of reading this stuff? Prob that modern books are not up to the standard of the old ones.

I had to read lord of the flies last year, and I didn't read all of it. But I still got a good result for a speech I had on it.

I would like to know what other people have read when in school(for years7-10).

life of pi

the skull beneath the skin

rosencrantz and guildenstern are dead
the real inspector hound

junior school:
survivor - stuart diver story
macbeth
to kill a mockingbird
ummm artemus fowl? lol can't remember that long ago

We're reading Romeo and Juliet, although I suppose that's qualifies as a play.

We're meant to be doing Captain Corelli's Mandolin later.

Boy Overboard (Year 7), whatever "myth" or thing we did same year, and that horrible time year 9 when we had to read "An Open Swimmer". And the entire English class was like, NO. Get that away! There's not enough punctuation!

I liked Saving Francesca. Thought it was much better than Looking For Alibrandi. Her best is On the Jellicoe Road, though.

Does anyone like the novels that you read at school?
Cause I think I've had enough of them... I really like Shakespeare though.

And has anyone read House of Leaves, The Whalestoe Letters or Only Revolutions by Mark Z. Danielewski?

Yeah, I liked Maestro, that was surprisingly good. Also, Animal Farm and The Crucible were good, loved the actual storylines. You forget that they actually are appropriating, it just feels like another story.

I've read two out of three of those books and I hated both. (Animal Farm and Maestro)

We're reading Catcher in the Rye. It sounds interesting cause it seems to be the inspiration of many murders.

I haven't read Saving Francesca or Looking for Alibrandi yet, but On the Jellicoe Road is definately a great book. I've read it twice now. I think some parts of it are really sad but its a good read

OOps-just realised i didn't answer the questionlol.
Um, yeah. i can't remember all the books i read in year 9 and 10 but the ones that stand out are Lockie Leonard, Animal Farm, macbeth(play), To kill a mockingbird (my god!-we spent like an entire term and a half on it in year 10), and i'm pretty sure we read Lord of the Flies as well but maybe that was just talking about reading itlol.

This year i haven't read anything in English, but in Extension we've read Great Expectations (before we knew we weren't supposed to-but its ok coz we've forgotten what most of it was about coz it was SO boring!lol). Um, we also had to read any Dickens novel we wanted (i read Hard Times) and now Jack Maggs.

I HATE DICKENS!!:burn: :burn:
