Wait, hang on...

You're saying people should do what's best for themselves, individually, even if it's selfish.

But you're also a self-proclaimed socialist/communist/lesbian-witch-commune person.

wtf?

WTF is normal?

I choose to live my life my way, I'm not about to pop out five kids to catch up with the marjority of girls I went to school with. I'm not about to get married because society says its normal and what girls should do!

I'm normal... not alternative - I just do it my way...

In my opinion, marriage is one of the most important things ever. I don't want to date somebody forever. One day I want to build my own family under the law. If people love each other what prevents them from marriage? I just don't understand that. And kids should be born in the official family.

Even though people are being more selfish these days and it sucks, i don't think it would be right to tell these selfish people to start popping out babies... because otherwise we will just end up with generations of kids who haven't been cared for properly that will become a drain on the government's resources. That is what happens in welfare families where single mums pop out kids for more cash and don't raise them.

You can't make people do what they don't want to do... and if you do force people or "strongly influence" people to go in a path they are not actually interested in pursuing the results will be pretty fruitless anyway. All it will result in is divorces, and kids who have been neglected by selfish parents. People need to want to get married and want to have kids and if they want to, then they will! Maybe we should look at our immigration policy, there you have people who want to come over and work and pay taxes, and possibly have more babies than your average Australian these days.

I've actually seen the opposite occurring. Too many young people are getting married. I've been to all these weddings where the bride and groom are no older than 22/23.

Some of my friends are 21 and getting engaged, about to be married the year later. Some of my 19 year friends are looking for a "potential husband".

Is it really necessary to get married so young? People ARE getting married...and i think all for the wrong reason. How can you build a home, a family, at the age of 20-21? Live your life!

Marriage and committment comes later...MUCH later

That's an unfair generalisation. Today Tonight and A Current Affair are hardly objective credible media.

a family in my eyes is one that raises their children. i agree with what braindrainedash said. it is not generalising, it is the truth, many women and men have babies without thinking ( mentality = "oh we won't get you pregnant, i just want good sex, if we have a kid, then we have one, who cares" without even considering anything about the child, then they have a kid growing up, without a proper mother or a father, ones who go out and enjoy theirselves, never at home and don't care about the happiness of their children.

I can understand young girls wanting to marry, esp to guys full of money so when divorce comes she gets half of everything he owns and earns, including income.

ive noticed a trend towards getting married early as well. my guess is that a large amount of these marriages will go down the drain (this is based on the types of people i am seeing getting married early)

i'm 19 now, finishing uni at 20, hopefully. looking at if i want a job, i'd probably work pre marriage for 4 years to cover debts, settle up etc, live my unmarried life for a while, then get engaged at 23-24, married at 25...other case is i study for 5 more years with a part time job, get married at earliest 25 again...i think jumping into a marriage or even relationship has a less chance of being successful than taking things as they come, slowly, steadily, that way you can know your potential spouse better, be sure they love you and can make sacrifices 4 u etc.

If you guys go to myspace do a search for females ages 21-24 and look at their marital status for Australia most are "single" or "in a relationship"; do a search for american profiles under same female/age 21-24 and most are "married"

very different over their in the states

Marriage? I don't beleive in marriage - whats the point of getting a legal document to say you love someone? A relationship works regardless of marriage or not. It changes nothing if you have been in a defacto relationship for more then six months!

Gene Simmons - Kiss: "I've been happily unmarried for years, I don't need to be unhappily married!"

Children? I'll have children when I'm not selfish enough to actually care about someone else.... Once I have done everything I need to do in life and the my whole world would revolve around that child.

Three children? You want every women to have three children, yet your not the one going through the painof pregnancy and labour? Shame on you - PIG!
Go Pink Butterfly! I completely agree with everything you say. :)

...because it was a massive generalisation suggesting that girls only want to marry rich men for their money. lol
