Not Allowed to Change Class!!! *Angry* (1 Viewer)

Ok so no only does it suck that Catholic schools have to study a religion course, but my RE co-ordinator just emailed me saying i wont be allowed to drop from Studies of Religion (UAI) to Catholic Studies (non-UAI).

Im Carrying 12 units atm, and i had the intention of dropping after the half-yearlies (just to make sure im going alright in other classes), but as soon as the results started coming back, 6 people were ''invited' to drop... my name not being on this list.

So i asked to drop, and he suggested that i stay in S.O.R, i debated but he said give it a try *this was on teh last day of term*. After realising the volume of homework my SOR teahcer gave me for the holidays, i emailed the co-ordinator about dropping, and he replied saying that 6 people dropping is the LEGAL LIMIT and i have to stay in S.O.R...

FUCK!!!

Is there an actual LEGAL limit, or is this some BS made-up so lifes convenient for him?

I Plan to annoy the schools general co-ordinator (a nice guy) and get my parental guardians involved in the fight

has anyone else had this experience with KLA Co-ordinators? any advice?

They might be able to force you to stay in the class, but they can't force you to do the work. Don't do any homework, don't hand anything in. Just go about your business as though you're not doing SOR.

That said, SOR is an easy subject to get a band 6 in, so it's worth doing for that.

(maybe this just comes from a couple of years of uni where they don't care if you don't do the work. High schools might care)

i was thinking of just ignoring the work, but we've been threatened with Afternoon detentions for purposely doing this (i.e. bringing down the rest of the cohort)

Passive resistance might work in the short term, but it would not be the best way to go about solving teh problem, since detention/N awards/Fail on the HSC etc don't look too good on the academic transcripts. I would advise having a calm talk with the subject coordinator and your parents.

And the legal limit thing is probably BS, you can drop any subject you want provided you do 10 units and satisfy the other BOS requirements.

this happened to some people at my school who were told they werent allowed to drop... the legal limit thing could be to do with the fact that the catholic studies class or classes are full and cannot take anymore students. This was the case at my school but yeh i agree it is crap

Go to the principal or an executive. Yr 12 matters like this are important, and your school should do all they can to accomodate your needs. I wouldn't recommend sabotage, be honest about it.

they cant force you to stay! even if you wana do english advanced and theyve put u in standard or whatever they have to let you do it.

i dropped 2 unit the day before the half yearly and done the general exam, did they like it? nooo

and believe it or not 15 people dropped 2 unit maths in one week and we only had 18 ppl in it.

now they full have to make another class, but it was never in their hands

no, they don't.
you have to acheived a certain mark to move from standard to advanced, i think at my school likes like 80%, and thats only from year 11 and through 11, and into 12.

that being said, i know what youre trying to say.
just bad example.



and agreed, while resistance is tempting, its best to act mature, and talk calmly with them first thing this coming term.

first day back i plan to talk to the year or-ordinator (i get along with her) and ask who i should be talking to and getting involved

ill also talk to my RE teacher so she understands the situation

we also have parent teacher interviews in teh near future, so that might be an effective channel of communication for my parent to voice their anger

That's all crappy, and I don't really have any helpful advice- I've had so many problems and stuff with my school, but not that particular one, so I hope you sort it out =)

But LOL, I glanced at seano77 's reply, and I thought it said "Go to the principal and execute him" =)
