Ok, so I'm officially almost completely in the dark about Uni, but that's ok... I start at the end of this month :S Anyone else that's lost, feel free to post your questions in this thread, as I'm sure there are plenty of questions yet to come, even if they're all from me :D

Where exactly can we find out our reading lists for our subjects?!?! Buy or borrow them from a library?

you will learn much from attending the first lecture of each subject, and importantly read/understand the Unit Outline (!).

a list of text should be found plastered to the glass at the co-op if you want you're books earlier, or check online at the co-op site for lists of texts... check some of the other threads in this forum and you should find the link

you can get the textbooks in like week 2..
but then you'd be behind in your readings and such.....

i normally wait till week 2 or something cuz i can't be bothered waiting in the lines...

The longer u wait the more likely the 2nd hand books will be all gone...well the good copies without masses of highlighting anyway..

they won't know if you don't have the textbooks

i need someone to back me up on my stand to not buy textbooks. i don't intend on buying them but i will wait until i see how much the lecturers refer to them before i decide.

LOL i'll back you up iab... i don't buy them..
i did buy one last year.. the COMP115 textbook.. only cuz i actually did need it, with me being lost about programming and all.... i just normally photocopy textbooks, just the stuff i need, and rely on my lecture notes.... borrow other people's notes, and look for notes on the net.... hahaha.. its the tightass way...

but seriously, sometimes you need them so get them...
noobie first year uni student mistake: buying all the textbooks for each unit the first/second week... you seriously don't need to buy textbooks if you don't want to....

course notes on the other hand, are a must.....

*end rant*

ye u only need text

sometimes even the ones with "text" are useless
like all the ancient history ones - $70 for a stupid dictionary and a crappy 20 page book on buildings.
