well if you got in with a uai in the high 80s, it means you were pretty shit at 3u maths (and if you got under 90 uai doing 4u maths your brain must have been used regularly to clean train engines with or something) to start with so it isnt about having 'advanced maths' knowledge.

the fallout continues:
Backlash fear as China slams uni

THE failure of the University of NSW Asian campus in Singapore has brought a sharp warning from the the Chinese Government to its citizens - don't study overseas.

An alert on an official website cautioned Chinese students to be wary of universities with a "low education quality and standards" and admonished UNSW Asia for spreading "boastful, false information" to attract enrolments.

Academics fear the warning could slash foreign enrolments here. However, UNSW spokeswoman Judy Brookman dismissed claims that its international student numbers will fall. "We have had no indication that the closure is having any impact on our student applications."

Ms Brookman said the university had clarified matters with Chinese officials.

"They have confirmed that the warning is intended to apply to UNSW Asia only and is not intended to reflect on the University of NSW or its reputation as a prestigious university with the highest standards of research and teaching," she said.

...

The statement from the Chinese Government, for which The Sun-Herald has obtained an English translation, was titled: "Warning on Overseas Study from the Department of Education: University of New South Wales Asia in Singapore Has Closed."

It stated: "People must choose schools with reliable quality and a good reputation when studying overseas, at least not the schools with unstable operations.

"People should also be very cautious about schools that have low education quality and standards and a reputation that is not widely recognised."

The website said UNSW Asia had falsely marketed itself as among the "top 50 universities in the world".

Ms Brookman said the UNSW Asia website only cited the fact that its Sydney campus had been ranked 41st in the word by a British newspaper.

A UNSW Asia academic, who did not want to be named, said the university's reputation had been badly damaged.

"This is definitely going to have an effect on the number of students," he said. "It's not just UNSW. Any Australian university is tainted by this."
