I heard from a friend recently that for the students like me doing their hsc in 2014, conics has been taken out for maths extention 2?? Can anybody confirm ? Thanks

That's not correct. The likelihood is that Conics won't be in the new syllabus when it comes out. You will be doing the old syllabus.

This "rumour" has been around since 2004 at least (probably earlier), where people each year were saying "Omg next year they're taking out Conics???" But yeah, braintic is correct. Next syllabus is when things may change.
