I've just found out that there is going to be NO DEFEE places for 09'ers..

so anyone know will the number of CSP places increase as a result or will those places for defee simply disappear?

There's already been a huge debate about this.
Some say there will be more csp places.
Others say the majority of DFEE places will be given to international students to cover the revenue loss they had with dfee places.

yeah there has been a big debate. personally, i think they will probably do both the things above. I think that they will open up some more CSP spots but will also make it easier for international students to get in.

international students already have a lower cut-off due to less competition as compare to the locals.. and yet they are still making it even easier!?

how can that be fair...

How is it easier when international students have to pay much more and there's a likelihood not many of them are able to afford?

Don't worry though. With courses which are of highest demands, their UAI cut-offs won't be 'that' low. Obviously unis don't want to lose their rep with less capable students!

according to great leader Rudd it's still more fair than giving aussie students the option to pay full fees if they choose to

so whats the benefit abt no DFEE??

more CSP places? - so unis can make up the revenues?? in the short term
lower UAI in courses coz more dumbasses like me could go to uni (more spots???)

more internationals, less money for the unis (unless the gov compensate them, which won't last )

basically it's so they can say it's "fair" because the bleeding hearts were carrying on about 'dumb rich kids buying their way into uni' just coz the DFEE uai cutoffs were a bit lower

What makes you think the government won't keep compensating it?
It's not that much money when you think about how much the government has allocatd to education.

yeah, the government allocates heaps to education

you really trust them to keep doing it forever?

The government is still undercompensating universities by about $30-40million. So yeah that's alot of International Full-fee places/research/course cuts/infrastructure-amenities to either increase or cut.

so is it how its gonna work???

scenario:
course A have 10 spots.
15 ppl wants to get into course A
_______________________________________

Old system with DFEE:
2ppl will get into with DFEE,
1 person from overseas
7 will get into by normal CSP, above or under uai cutoffs

&

New System, No DFEE
same course, same amount of ppl

while 1 or 2 from overseas
the 8 spots are for the 15 ppl to fight for?

therefore conclusion,
more competiton?
more demand & supply?

true or not?

Fee paying cut offs are not that much lower.
