Enviropig is another example lol.

thanks i looked this up...its simple and pretty easy to remember

The Enviropig is a line of transgenic pigs developed to allow them to produce low-phosphorus manure. Ordinary pigs lack the ability to produce the enzyme phytase, which makes them unable to digest phosphorus from their feed. Researchers led by Cecil Forsberg at the University of Guelph have developed a strain of pigs which are able to produce phytase by injecting pig embryos with bacterial DNA which codes for the phytase protein. The pigs produce phytase in their saliva

i think that's a good example of a transgenic species.

umm does that hormone make the salmon much bigger in size?

i think the teach made us watch a video of that once from what i remember.
Yeah, accelerates growth and size I think.

yeah i called them on monday twice lol

i reckon they are good too.... i got the same guy twice lol he sure knew what he was on about

i was gonna ask them a list of things.. first to clarify about the cell differentiation/specialisation thing

then wanted to ask a couple of things in communicaiton option, and about imbalance of microflora.

Regarding Samon and Bovine Growth hormone - how is this achieved. Like. Microinjection?

So tomorrow im gonna stay on the fone with the adviser for like half an hour with ALL my final questions.

Well the gene for the production of Bovine Growth Hormone is identified isolated from the source organism, and then 'cut out' using special restriction enzymes.

They then use the same restriction enzymes in the receiver organism (the salmon), to cut out the gene for growth hormone at its particular locus on the chromosome.

For this type of transgenic species... I would think they use micropipette/injection to transfer the isolated gene into the experimental cell... which then will 'fit into' the empty slot, with the enzyme Ligase.

Remember, there are other vectors such as bacteria, viruses etc, that can be used to transfer the new genetic material.

What are your final questions for tomorrow, btw? if you don't know them I need to make sure I know it myself as it's likely I'm sketchy in those areas.

lollll dude im sureee ur a top bio student, and probably even better than me. i haven't really got any areas of grave concern... tonight when im going thru the Biology in Focus textbook (the new one released this year)... any parts im a bit hazy in ill write down.

Some for me include: Cell differentiation/specialisation. - i get the jist of it, and i understand it, i just want to clarify my ideas with the advisers.
Hybridisation - wanna make sure that a simple example such as a Mule suffices.

Communication - hope to clarify depolarisation/threshold things with advisers.

With me, its more about clarification rather than not knowing things.
