To me it looks too modern to be a logo of a uni. I don't understand how they expect people to take the uni more seriously (i.e. trying to attract researchers and postgrads) with a logo that looks like it should belong elsewhere.

Um, are you serious? When I saw it I thought it was some evil character from Sailor Moon or Mario that Mike appropriated as a joke!

Hmm... At least they're accommodating to our large Asian student population with the slanty (yellow) eyes... And I'm sure we'll have more Russians now we have the lovely shade of Soviet red... But it should fend off any Nazis, because the Star of David = Macquarie supports Jews.

I mean, thats what I got from the symbolism; me who hasn't done English or Art since year 12. I wonder what Art/Media students read into it?

But its funny what comparison does; I don't think its nearly as bad now... still confused about the choice of the Star of David.

Will we still get the nice, normal, mature "M" on our graduation certificate? I really hope so.

even under the current M logo, i think the graduation certificates still have the old green and gold shield.

Reason behind Macquarie NEW logo/image

The real reason behind Macquarie's new logo design

Macquarie knows where its moolah will be made in the future, and its ALL made in china (no disrespect to asians out there). Lets check out our image "transformation" in closer detail shall we:

OLD mac logo (the one people most seem to prefer):

NEW mac logo:

Now, lets look at similar logos that adopt the same modern 'serif font' scheme as part of their image:

"Wait a minute???? Aren't they're all diploma factories" (occasionally referred to as private colleges), you say.

"So that makes us......... "


And HERE's the deal breaker:

hmmmmm. I couldn't quite put my finger on it, but doesn't that logo look kinda like....

...HEYYYYY! Its china's national flower - the peony (Sho Yu 富贵花).

.....And doesn't red symbolise good fortune and integrity in china??

.........And that star. Isn't it reminiscent of........oh yeah:

The old logo isn't a crest and doesn't have many years of tradition behind it - it's from 1996. It's also widely hated across the University due to its phallicness.

I like the new logo. It's contemporary and fresh and much more polished than the old logo. And you might notice that 'university' is as big as 'macquarie', whereas in the old logo the word 'Macquarie' was highlighted over University. So there is actually more acknowledgment that it's an academic institution.
