The Faculties of Engineering and the Built Environment are proud to announce a new single BE degree in Civil Engineering with Architecture.

This is an innovative multi-disciplinary single degree with a major in Civil Engineering and a minor in Architecture completed within "four years". The core of the Civil engineering program is maintained and supplemented with almost a full year of courses from the Faculty of the Built Environment interacting with architectural students. The aim is to provide an appreciation of architectural principles and an understanding of both the architect's role in construction and the interaction between architects and engineers. The ultimate objective is to help students become conceptual thinkers, inspired by beautiful creations to build even better ones, to develop an appreciation for beauty with the mathematical ability to challenge the traditional boundaries of engineering design. Students graduating from this BE degree will be well qualified to collaborate with architects and other professionals in the built environment to produce integrated, sustainable design.

Mario was telling us about this the other day - apparently you do:

Architectural computing and modelling and visualisation instead of engineering computing in 1st year

architecture stuff instead of one transport course and 6 general education units

one or two archicecture electives in 4th year

yes you will be able to pass uni maths if you keep up your work ethics. uni maths isn't too much work because (for most students) you only get one little question book for the whole semester that consists of about 100 or so questions which your tutor does most of anyway. there's quizes every few weeks as well, so you wont fall behind. there's also a maths student support scheme for 1st years so yea, help is there if you need it to do well.

there's not as much pure maths as many think, in the early years of civil eng. i've only done 3 maths subjects so far in 2 years, but of course there's other subjects that use maths applications like calculus, but they aren't generally that hard.

i liked maths, but i wasn't all that great at HSC maths. mainly due to lack of effort though. uni maths is different from HSC maths i reckon. firstly, uni doesn't teach a whole years worth of material each semester, and secondly, the tutorial questions and tutorial quizes are very helpful for keeping you on track.

Im glad to see that im not the only person whos lost and undecisive between Civil eng and Architecture.
This new course seems intresting but I dont really see it as a combined degree of both Civil & Architecture, as its only introducing some aspects of architecture into the civil eng degree.
I mite just browse the forum for all arch & civil threads before I ask for some assistance from current Architecture and civil eng students.
