I was considering investing in a small netbook to use for the rest of year 12 and for a year or so in uni. Does anyone here use a netbook and would it be a worthwhile purchase?

I would only be using it for word processing and light web surfing, as I already have a large laptop and a gaming PC at home.

I can and have tried to do so in the past, but it's literally enormous. It doesn't fit into my schoolbag and the battery only lasts about 2 hours. :(

I have one... a crappy $300 Toshiba which... I suppose is okay for one-tab or two-tab internet surfing and light word processing.

Personally I use it if I'm bored and want to BoS during uni, I prefer to write notes on paper.

I would save up and invest in a smaller (12 - 14") but good quality laptop and get rid of your massive one. Never saw much point in netbooks tbh, especially if you already have 2 computers.

Hmm, okay, thanks for the input =) I was considering saving up for an ultrabook but they cost around $1000+. Which is more than I wanted to spend, but it would probably be better for more intensive tasks.

If you think of it as a long-term investment, the cost doesn't seem so bad. An ultrabook (or similar) is more likely to last you into your uni years so you won't have to replace it as quickly.
I got a Macbook Pro at the start of year 11 (2 years ago) and it still runs great - probably won't have to replace it for another 1 or 2 years.

That's very true. I think I will definitely consider that as an option now.

They're pretty useful for uni, i get the bulk of my assessments done in the library on my netbook when i'm between lectures/tutes.

I am extremely jealous of you. A few of my friends have one and they look so awesome.

Cool, that's what I was hoping to hear xD Do you just use yours for uni work? Or for other things too?

Um, uni work and work work (which also happens to be at uni, go figure). It's important for me because i live quite a way away from uni and so spend long hours on campus, if i wasn't able to do work at uni it would be difficult to find the time to get my assessments done.

I got a small $280 netbook, whatever you want to call it, for year 12 [im currently in yr 12] and I beleive its a good investment. You dont want a powerful one, which could tempt you to play games or go youtube, just something powerful enough to word process and surf the web.

Get one.

lol I'm tempted to use the DET laptop at uni. When the admin crap is removed, clean it and use it. Should be perfect for word processing and web and too laggy for anything else.

I'll look cheap - but thats never stopped me.

All I've been using my laptop for in uni is playing Halo, Facebook and watching anime during classes.
