Straight from the syllabus:
This module requires students to explore and evaluate a specific text and its reception in a range of contexts.

... in which the set work has been read, received and valued in historical and other contexts.

What exactly does context as outlined above, refer to (in terms of King Lear)?

...examine how particular features of the text contribute to textual integrity.

And what does textual integrity refer to as well?

Thanks in advance!

textual integrity is how the play works as a whole unified text with its plethora of universal themes. context in regards to lear is how contexts have taken their liberties to interpret those aforementioned universal themes to give it their -contemporary- relevance. i.e. in a jacobean english context, the idea of an illegimate son gaining kingly power would cause more uproar than our postmodern context. so the context in which the play is viewed shapes meaning, as well as interpreting the play in their own theatrical proiductions...hope this helped but i wanna hear what others have to say on this matter
