Hey all,

So I've been slacking off pretty much the whole year (studied only 30 mins-1hr a day) and received a horrendous half yearly report(bottom 20% of thr grade in 4/6 subjects). The teachers at my new school are starting to doubt my academic abilities and I've only started working hard recently. What should I do from this point on if I want to achieve an ATAR of 95?

Does the year 11 half yearly report reflect on what ATAR a student gets? How many hours of study do you guys think is appropriate at this point for me?

Year 11 half yearly report does not reflect on what ATAR a student gets- unless they keep doing what they've been doing in year 11 then your not gonna get the ATAR you want anyway.
An ATAR of 95 or above requires you to be in the top few ranks for every subject. If your studying 1hr a day atm and in the bottom 20% for 4/6 subjects I'd be spending a few hours atleast.
But don't overwork yourself

I would say around 20hrs a week
2 hrs a weekday and 2 x 2.5 hr study session each weekend.
That should be the minimum.
But sometimes its pretty hard to study so just try study more each day until you get this minimum.
Also , try make a study timetable to allocate your time better.

Hey don't lose hope, I did nothing in my prelim year and I'm still doing nothing for my HSC year unless there's an assessment or an exam coming up, if there is one of the two coming up I pull myself together and start doing work, like actual work. [I blame myself for this, keep procrastinating :( ].

It depends on your goals and aspirations, you should start to make study notes for your subjects and start to learn them for your yearlies. You've still got plenty of time before the actual HSC!

You ask whether yr 11 reflects yr 12, I say it does. Although my quality of work and ability to cram improved, my habits stuck to me (including cramming, gaming, youtubing and just browsing random crap online in general).

So try getting rid of your bad habits now, that 30mins to 1hr per day should be hard out studying, not semi-studying, by semi studying I mean doing work --> tv --> work --> facebook --> work --> video, if you do that in the 1 hr it's not really efficient.

I've found that what I do in 4 hrs + internet could've been done in an hour of solid work.

I suggest you do 1.5 hrs daily on weekdays and 2 hrs per day on the weekend --> that's 11.5 hrs total which I think is enough for prelims (but others will beg to differ).

In the HSC i suggest you up your game and do 2 hrs a day on weekdays and 2.5 hrs a day on weekends (unless you're in the mood for more)

NB: sorry for my crappy vocab and grammar (I suck at English :p)

Hope this helps and good luck!
