Non turbo R33 skyline - Slow as hell, barely enough to beat a V6 commodore
WRX - Needs quite a bit of boost and a hard launch to go anywhere in a hurry

2009 Corolla.

Slow as hell, not enough torque, sloppy handling, spongy brakes (poor braking distance too), poor car/driver communication, poor interior build quality, poor seats, looks fugly.

Expected much better out of one of the most popular small cars around.

That sucks, Ive never driven a newer rolla. I drove an Aurion though and its brakes were brilliant for a car its size.

BMW 740iL (E38)- my first V8 car I'd ever driven and I thought it would be "whoa omg acceleration" but it wasn't. It was very sedate. The car defied it's size and felt no bigger than a Corolla from the way it steered, but then the acceleration from a 4.4L V8 was nothing which left me breathless. With only about 210kW at the engine, it's no wonder the car didn't feel that fast (considering it weighed 1700kg).

That being said, when I later went and tried the 750iL V12 (240kW) model, that scared the pants off me. The acceleration (and the aural feedback) were amazing.

I drove the old 1996 Corolla as well, I swear the people who designed it were homicidal. Take all of the attributes of the new one, make them about significantly worse. Then have a car that has no progressive loss of traction, heavy understeer to snap oversteer.

Considering it's age, I'm glad it works.

I'd say the fact it's surviving after 27 years is testament to some form of good quality.

That being said I probably would've avoided a soft top/convertible of that age... bound to have water leakage.

Oh fair enough. You want a Bimmer that badly? I'm inclined to think that the reliability issues and whatnot would deter all but those who are truly heart set on one.

The premium models esp in the hatch are pretty snazzy IMO. But then if I was paying that much money I would probably look at other options (e.g. Rukus or maybe even a Prius) if I was really wanting a Toyota.
