Hi,

Does anyone know how many students are accepted into Monash medicine each year? Of those number, how many are internationals?

Thanks a lot! ;)

the dash means 'no offers' so does that mean that no international students were accepted? That can't be right.

The following facts are accurate as at 1 February 2005.

There are approximately 160 places in the first year of the medicine course for Australian citizens and permanent residents, including 22 bonded medical places and nine rural-bonded places. Up to 15 feepaying places for Australian citizens and permanent residents are available. Additional places are provided for international feepaying students.

in my year there are about 80 international students and 120 local students. It is not difficult to gain entry. The academic credentials of students at Monash (both local and international), in my experience of asking around do not have to be cream of the crop (say, compared to UNSW or UMelb). So don't lose hope and I definitely encourage you to apply for it if you have the chance!

Do they count uai/umat/interview 1/3 each?

I actually did look :p But I'll look again.

Best I could find :

An interview is a significant component of the selection process. Selection will be based on performance in:

• UMAT • ENTER • Interview

Couldn't find any weightings there.

I think if anyone says they know the answer they're probably lying, as if it's not there, no one except the faculty know and that's a secret kept by them.
I think those kind of weightings are kept a secret, but I'd presume it's fairly equal by the sounds of things.
But then again, I ask the question: who cares? I mean you know your UAI but you don't know how it compares to other applicants, you know your UMAT but you don't really know compared to other applicants to that uni (except from previous years) and you really can't say about your interview. So don't worry, do your best and wait for offers.

I agree with keen, just focus on doing your best and c if u get an offer but it sounds to me like its similar to newcastle where your ranked on your interview then sub ranked on your umat and enter
