Module C Thesis, Conflicting Perspectives (1 Viewer)

Controversy arises when different groups of people with differing opinions on a particular issue clash. While there may never be a common consensus reached on an issue, these conflicting perspectives are useful for an individual wanting to form an opinion on an issue. Ted Hughes’ collection of poems, “Birthday Letters,” the Police song “Don’t Stand So Close To Me,” and a collection of Sydney Morning Herald Articles on the asylum seeker debate all weigh in the composers’ opinion on heated issues, while offering differing views within the text. While Hughes’ poems and the song by the Police need to address the issue in a brief, succinct manner, and as such need to employ metaphors and representation, all texts have a quite literal narrative in order to convey their message.

Our class was advised to use at least one related text that was related to the Hughes/Plath debate. For example, I am using Frieda Hughes foreword to Ariel. Otherwise how do you demonstrate conflicting perspectives if you have texts on 3 separate issues. Since each text gives its own perspective, you then need another to contrast that with. The collection of articles is a good idea since you'll most likely be able to draw different perpspectives from them, but don't know how you would tie in the song.

What you have is good though, but when we get the question, try and make a reference to it at some point in there, otherwise the marker will know straight away its pre-prepared.
