Theres often so much things to remember in many subjects and I often rely on mnemonics to remember

For example:


IPT

The informaton processes are

I memorise it with:

2U Mathematics

Theres the sine, cosine and tangent ratio ...

Sine = Opposite / Hypotenuse
Cosine = Adjacent / Hypotenuse
Tangent = Opposite / Adjacent

And we remember SOH CAH TOA


The quadrant ratios in trigonometry is one of the easier ones to remember.

All ratios are positive in 1st quadrant
Sine ratio is positive in 2nd quadrant only
Tangent ratio is positive in 3rd quadrant only
Cosine ratio is positive in 4th quadrant only

OR

1st Quadrant - All ratios
2nd Quadrant - Sine
3rd Quadrant - Tan
4th Quadrant - Cos

The most common mnemonic is:

NOTE:

My 3U maths class isnt close enough to the quadrant trigonometry yet ... I want to learn ahead !



Chemistry

We were supposed to learn off by heart to determine if certain ionic compoudns were soluble or insoluble.

The practical task I did recently did little to help, although I did score some good marks of 25/31 ... If I wore safety glasses I would get extra marks .. Lets not get carried away

Now,

How the HELL am I supposed to remember all this ???


Soluble Ionic Compunds


Group 1 and ammonium

nitrates

acetates (ethanoates)

chlorides, bromides and idodides (except silver and lead ions)

sulfates (except silver, lead, barium, strontium, and calcium ions)


Insoluble Ionic Compunds


carbonates, sulfites and phosphates (except group 1 and ammonium compunds)

hydroxides and oxides(except Group 1, ammonium, barium, strontium and calcium ions)

sulfides (except Groups 1, 2 and ammonium ions)

I don't like mnemonics, never helped me before.

For some reason, I remember long paragraphs/essays better and easier, then lots of short dot points. Hence for things i have to remember, i read, then write it few times and then say it out loud.

Everyone has a different way of memorising things. I remember things more easily if they are connected to something I like, so for subjects like maths and legal studies, I'll remember things easier than for subjects like business studies and studies of religion.

I rely heavily on mnemonics too (especially with chem and english quotes)

for eg: flame testing Calcium would lead to a red colour
therefore Calcium - Red
= Car
Or Sodium would turn orange/yellow
= Soy

Just remember group 7 elements or halogens.

OIL RIG: Oxygen Is Loss (of electrons), Reduction Is Gain (of electrons)

like physics and maths ? they both intertwine in a way ..

i mean, the cosine rule applies to physics and maths .. its somehow easier to remember formulas than to remember solubility rules ...

Another mnemonic for chemistry is....

-Metals = losers (lose electrons therefore positive)
-Non Metals = greedy (gain electrons therefore negative)

And another is...
- Pussy Cats = Cations (Positive)
- Anions = Negative
