An interesting thing that popped into my inbox this afternoon:

Dear Student

Minimum Rate of Progress

From 2006 all Bachelor Degree candidates are required to maintain a
satisfactory rate of progress during their period of candidature. A
candidate's minimum rate of progress is considered to be
unsatisfactory
at the end of an academic year, if having attempted at least 36 credit
points after 1 January 2006, the overall grade point average (GPA)
attained is less than 1.00 and in the year under consideration the GPA
is less than 1.00. A student who does not meet minimum rate of
progress
requirements from the end of 2007 and any year thereafter, will be
excluded from further enrolment in any Bachelor Degree program.

A student who is excluded for failing to maintain a satisfactory
minimum rate of progress may appeal to the Academic Appeals Committee
for permission to continue their program.

If you have any queries regarding your academic progress or minimum
rate of progress, you should consult an academic adviser in the
Division of Registration of your program of study.

Yeah I got that but is fuckin stupid. You have to get below 1.00 in the year after you get 1.00 in 1 year. Its like upping the perceived quality, but at the same time its allowing uni to make money in that second year. Someone can, according to that, fail everything for 2 years, before they cannot get a Bachelor degree (get kicked out of your degree)

A lot of people come there and don't give a fuck. Like, they are forced by parents and what not.

i fink it means if u get below 1 in a given year or as a total

cause it says it can onli apply for after 2006, so that would mean say u started in 04 and gpa = 0

then once 06 starts u think oh shit need to study
but its no use they'll kick u even if u have gpa of 4 for that year so i fink its just to cover all basis

but u'll be suprised at the low gpas going around. especially international students that didnt do SIBT to start they're gpa's are all mostly pretty low a 3 for them is like OMFG WTF HOW DID U MANAGE THAT
